David R. Hastings II was admitted to the practice of law in Maine in March of 1949. He served for three years during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, and qualified as a navigator and radar operator. David graduated from Bowdoin College in 1946, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa; and from Harvard Law School in 1949. Since then he has practiced law in Fryeburg, Maine at Hastings & Son, now Hastings Law Office. David was elected to three terms as Oxford County Attorney, serving from 1955 through 1958 and 1961 through 1962. David served on the Maine Executive Council in 1959-1960. His practice is now primarily in estate planning, trusts, and probate matters. He has served as a Co-Trustee of the Clarence E. Mulford Trust, a private foundation, for over 50 years.
Aside from his office practice, David was one of the founders, and for some 15 years chairman, of Eastern Slope Airport Authority. He has been an officer of Fryeburg Fair for more than 50 years, as secretary, Finance Committeeman, and currently as President. David was a Trustee of Fryeburg Academy for 28 years, the last 10 years as President. He served on the Board of Directors of Carroll County Trust Co., of Conway, New Hampshire, and its successor entities through Fleet Bank-New Hampshire, for some 40 years. David also served on the Board of Directors of Consumers Water Company, based in Portland, Maine for 30 years, the last 10 as Chairman.
David resides in Fryeburg with his wife, Doris, a retired school psychologist.
